This week's big project is going to be a newspaper page. I'll send home the instructions tomorrow but it will be due next Monday. Basically it's a front page of a newspaper about a human body system. It begins with a creative title like "The Digestive Digest;" has two essays on it (an informative one about the system chosen and the other a biography on a scientist who studied that system); a picture of the system; a math problem using the subject and expressed in multiplying or dividing decimals; and some interesting facts. Today in class the fifth graders had ample time to research their scientist and should have brought home their notes to construct an outline. Tomorrow in class they will write the biography and then begin working on the informative essay. This will be done in class and at home. If time is spent wisely, little homework will be required.
We finished our unit on Japan and are going to begin studying the United States and westward expansion, pre-Civil War. Some of my favorite historical figures will be studied. Anyone care to guess who they are?
See you tomorrow!
Love, Mrs Cardinal
